Philadelphia Union Welcomes Delaware Express as a Sponsor/Transportation Partner
“This will become the envy of America. I’ll tell you that now.”
Those were the words spoken by Rene Meulensteen, as he was proudly announced joining the Union Technical staff as a consultant for Soccer Operations ahead of the 2015 season.
It was certainly a strong statement from a man who spent 12 seasons ingrained in a club that is arguably the envy of the world, Manchester United.
It is also a statement that falls directly in line with the vision of the Philadelphia Union organization: to be the most admired American Soccer Club from the grass roots level to the first team.
With Jim Curtin as Head Coach, Rene Meulensteen as consultant for Soccer Operations and Tommy Wilson heading up our youth Academy, we believe we have the right people in place to develop a technical structure that will help us compete in the modern era of Major League Soccer every year in a sustainable way.
Jim Curtin and Technical Director Chris Albright have been working tirelessly since the end of the season to build on the core group of players that went unbeaten in 17 of the final 23 games this past season. We have supreme confidence that Jim and his technical staff will acquire the players needed to not only appear in Cup finals, as we did back in September narrowly losing out to Seattle Sounders for our very first trophy but, winning them!
On the youth development side, our Academy continues to grow as we invest heavily into this area. Rene Meulensteen, who began his career at Manchester United’s youth academy, will bring more expertise as we continue to search for and develop the Union’s future players from throughout our region. We aspire to be one of the most progressive clubs in America at the player development level.
The sod has been laid on our brand-new practice fields outside PPL Park and for the first time in our short history our players will have a permanent home to train and refine their skills for MLS competition.
We have recently added three new sponsors in Dogfish Head Brewery, Musselman’s Apple Sauce and Delaware Express to go along with our other great Partners who are so important to our success and growth.
We also welcome a new investor to our group Mr. David Seltzer and his family. Mr. Seltzer is an original Philadelphian, has a wide array of expertise and we are very excited to add another local investor. He will be working closely with us on a variety of transportation initiatives for fans that live in Center City Philadelphia that want to attend games at PPL Park.
After the completion of just five years of Club history and going into 2015 it is truly exciting times to be a member of the Philadelphia Union Family. We are thrilled by the continued growth of our fan base as it is the lifeblood of our Club and, wanted to take this moment to wish you and your loved ones a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Your relentless passion and enduring devotion to the Club is what has fueled a remarkable journey the last five seasons and made PPL Park one of the loudest and best places in all of MLS to watch a soccer match.
